IT consulting for SMEs.

IT consulting for Singapore businesses: straight advice on systems and vendors, from people who build things and don’t need to sell you one.

What it is

Sometimes the useful thing isn’t a project. It’s an hour with someone who has built these systems, can read a vendor’s quote, and will tell you what’s reasonable and what isn’t.

We give that kind of advice. If a subscription you already pay for covers the need, we’ll say so. If a quote is padded, we’ll say that. If the right move is to do nothing for now, that’s a fine answer too.

What we can help with

  • A second opinion on a quote. Is this scope sensible, is the price in the right range, what’s missing, what’s unnecessary.
  • Build or subscribe. Whether an existing tool does the job, and what custom work is actually worth doing.
  • Untangling systems. Three tools that don’t talk to each other, and the least painful way to connect or replace them.
  • Security basics. Accounts, backups, access and the handful of settings that prevent most SME incidents.
  • Taking over from a previous developer. What you actually have, whether it can be kept, and what it would take.
  • A plan before you spend. What to do first, what can wait, and roughly what each step involves.

How it goes

  1. Tell us the situation

A few lines about what you have, what’s annoying, and what you’re considering.

  2. We take a look

Quotes, logins or a screen-share, whatever makes sense. We ask the questions a builder would ask.

  3. You get a clear answer

What we’d do in your position, in writing, with the trade-offs. No slides.

  4. You decide

Do it yourself, use another vendor, ask us to build it, or do nothing. All fine.

What it costs

A first conversation is free. If it turns into real work, like reviewing a tender or writing a plan, we quote it in writing before starting. There is no retainer unless you want one.

Questions people ask

Will you recommend your own services?

Only where it is the right answer. Advice is useful because it is independent. If an off-the-shelf tool or another vendor fits better, we say so.

Can you review a quote from another company?

Yes. We look at the scope, the assumptions and the price, and tell you what looks reasonable, what is missing and what to ask them.

Do we have to share our logins?

Only what is needed to take a look, read-only where possible, and you can remove our access as soon as we are done.

Can you help with grant applications?

We can explain how the EDGE grant treats software projects, and our EDGE explainer page sets it out. GeekScience is not a pre-approved vendor and does not submit applications. Check eligibility and the vendor rules with Enterprise Singapore.
