Questions people ask.
The things most people want to know before they message us. If yours isn’t here, just ask.
Before a project
How much does custom software cost?
It depends on what it has to do, what it connects to and how many people use it, so we quote each project on its own after a short chat. We take on small jobs too, and we tell you the cost in writing before any work starts. Our guide to what custom software costs explains what moves the number.
How long does a project take?
Small tools can be in use within weeks; larger systems are delivered in stages, with working versions along the way. We give a realistic timeline with the quote, and we would rather quote a longer one than miss a short one.
Who owns the code and the data?
You do. The code lives in an account you control, the system runs on your own hosting and service accounts, and your data stays in those accounts. If you ever want another developer to take over, they can.
Where does it run?
On accounts in your name, with reputable cloud providers, in a Singapore region where the provider offers one. You see the bills and you hold the keys; we just set it up.
What happens after it goes live?
We stay around. Small fixes and questions are part of normal life for a system. Bigger changes are quoted before we do them. There is no compulsory retainer.
Is our business too small?
No. Turning one messy spreadsheet into a simple app is a fine place to start.
Do we have to replace the software we already use?
Usually not. We build around what works for you, and connect to your accounting, point-of-sale or e-commerce tools rather than replacing them.
How do we start?
Message us on WhatsApp or email with a few lines about what you need. Rough ideas are welcome. A first chat of about half an hour is free; we use it to understand the problem and suggest the smallest thing worth building first.
Can we talk in Chinese?
Yes, we can communicate in English or Chinese.
Do you work with businesses outside Singapore?
Our focus is businesses in Singapore. If you are elsewhere and the work can be done remotely, ask and we will tell you whether it fits.
What about the PDPA and personal data?
We build with the Personal Data Protection Act in mind: collect only what the feature needs, say why, store it in accounts you control, limit who can see it, and give people a way to opt out of messages. For sensitive data, like patient records, we keep as little as possible outside your core system.
What about government grants?
EDGE replaced EDG, PSG and MRA for new applications on 30 September 2026. GeekScience is not a pre-approved vendor and does not submit applications. Check your eligibility and the vendor rules with Enterprise Singapore before any work starts; our EDGE explainer page sets out what the official pages say.
Will you sign an NDA?
We can sign an NDA; ask us.
Which technologies do you use?
Ordinary, widely used ones that any competent developer can pick up, chosen to fit the job rather than to be fashionable. We will tell you what we propose and why, and we avoid anything that locks you to us.
Do you provide day-to-day IT support?
For the systems we build, yes: we stay around for fixes and changes. For general laptop, network or email support, ask us; we’ll tell you whether it’s something we take on or point you to someone who does.
Free 30-minute chat.
Tell us what you have in mind and we’ll say what we’d build, roughly what it takes, and whether it’s worth doing. No slides, no pitch.
